DISCHARGE SWALLOW GUIDELINES

SOLID CONSISTENCY :

  No food by mouth

     Dysphagia I

     Dysphagia II

     Dysphagia III

     Regular

LIQUID CONSISTENCY:

     Pudding thick liquids

     Honey thick liquids

     Nectar thick liquids

     Thin liquids

     No liquids

     Ice chips only


AMOUNT OF FOOD:

  Three meals/day

   Snacks only; ________

  Other______________


Strategies/Compesations:

 

  Wear Passy-Muir Speaking valve while eating

  Small bites/sips

  Feed by teaspoon only

  Two swallows per bite

  Head of bed 90 degrees

  Sips of liquids after each solid

  Tuck chin down

  Turn head  R  /  L
